A unusual cool and breezy May weather greeted us at Willow Spring Raceway for
this NASA double race weekend. On Saturday's race #1 of the weekend, Clement dueled with 2 other cars, swapping positions throughout the entire race. After 16 laps, Clement finished less than 2/100th sec off the podium behind 3rd. On Sunday's race #2, Clement survived a big melée at the start of the race just before turn 1. After several laps of full course yellow to clean up major debris, Clement clawed his way back up from 7th and made a perfectly executed last lap last corner pass to finish in 3rd on the podium, albeit with a somewhat banged up car. |

A week after the NASA event,
Clement returned to Buttonwillow for SCCA's double National. On
Saturday, Clement qualified his car in 3rd in spite of an intermittent
misfiring. The race started without a hitch as Clement pressed hard and
eventually took over 2nd place 2/3 of the way into the race and finished in
that order just a nose in front.
Sunday saw the same as Clement once again qualified his car in 3rd.
After a chaotic start, Clement came thru in front of his class of car.
However, as his car was down on power, Clement was relegated back to 2nd
before the end of the first lap. Struggling with grip, Clement dropped
further back into 3rd as his car began to develop a horrible misfire.
Fortunately, the car held together and Clement was able to finish in 3rd to
collect some more championship points. |

Racing returned to the "home" track
at Buttonwillow raceway. Another perfect weekend weather with sun
shine and warm weather. 20+ Spec Miata showed up to do battle.
For race #1 on Saturday, Clement qualified in 4th with the top 4 cars all ran within 2/10th sec. At the start, got up to 3rd until the final lap and lost it back as his car handling went away, thus finishing the race in 4th. For Sunday race #2, Clement made a small adjustment to the ill handling car. Once again, Clement qualified in 4th, with the same top 4 all within 2/10th sec. Analyzing his data, Clement determined his tire were not performing up to par. Without another set, not much can be done to remedy the problem. When the race began, Clement managed to get up into 3rd right at the start of the race, drove as hard as one could and maintained position until the end to finish on the podium in 3rd. |

Gorgeous sunny Southern California
weather greeted 20+ NASA Spec Miata drivers at Auto Club Speedway, a
horsepower track. For Saturday's race, Clement qualified 5th with the
top 5 all within fractions of each other. As the race got under way,
the top 5 cars quickly broke away from the rest of the pack. They ran
nose to tail and occasionally swapping positions. Clement finished in
5th just fractions of a second from 4th. Sunday's race starting line
up was decided in a qualifying race held earlier in the day. The
resulting starting order was more or less the same as Saturday with Clement
in 5th. At the start, the top 5 cars once again broke away from rest
of the pack. With a few more lead changes and position swapping,
Clement once again finished in 4th, just fractions behind 3rd. |

Stormy/rainy weather drenched
Southern California's Willow Springs Raceway once again on Saturday.
Clement's race group lucked out, having a clearing in sky, to have a dry
qualifying session. Changing back to his dry setup, Clement promptly
qualified on pole in his class. The Single National race was on Sunday
morning which saw a completely clear, dry, sunny and cool, SoCal blue sky.
While on pole for his SM class, Clement started the race in 10th in the
combined race group, amongst higher horsepower cars such as T1 Corvettes.
Clement was comfortable leading his SM class when he was hit by a Corvette at the bottom of the Omega (turn 5 in the main track) and was spun around and off the track about half way into the race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBlhhqiQB_0 Keeping his motor running, Clement, albeit with knocked out alignment,
was able to rejoin the race and limped home to a 3rd place finish in his
class. |

The unusual stormy weather returned
to Southern California. On Saturday, with unsettled rainy weather,
Clement gingerly felt his way around in the wet to qualify his car in 3rd
for the race. The weather cleared up in the afternoon just in time for
the race. Most readjusted their car to a dry setup. At the start
of the race, first time pole sitter checked-up early going into the first
corner, backing up all the cars behind. Clement was bumped from behind
which caused him to go off track. Clement regrouped and rejoined at
the back of the pack, but eventually made his way up to finish the race in
3rd. The storm left as quickly as it came and on Sunday saw beautiful sunny California weather. With a completely dry track, Clement qualified in 3rd. The start of the race was more orderly, with the top 4 cars pushing hard to break away from the pack, then battled for the lead. The cars were running nose to tail and side by side. Unfortunately, about 2/3 of the way into the race, Clement's car got stuck in 4th gear and had to drop back albeit still running at a brisk pace. Fortunately with the large gap that build up earlier, Clement was still able to finish the race in 4th.

The week long rain storm cleared up
just in time into beautiful sunny blue sky for the 2010 SCCA season opener
at Auto Club Speedway. Clement continued where he left off at the end
of last season and qualified for the National race on pole position.
In the race, Clement took the green flag and led the opening laps.
With the 2nd place car in tow, by lap 5, they opened up more than 5 sec gap
on the 3rd place car. Clement swapped lead with the 2nd place car and
ran nose to tail for a few more laps before they begin battling. 2/3
of the way into the race, Clement retook the lead at the end of the oval,
coming into the infield. Then Clement push hard and opened up a small gap and
maintained that position until the checkered flag, taking first place in the
season opener. |
